Enjoy a walk through Kaweka, Castlemaine's hidden gem

Kaweka is a 2.5 hectare conservation reserve in Castlemaine, around 1.3km from the town centre. Sited on Dja Dja Wurrung land, it is an intact pocket of remnant bush.

Don MacRae donated Kaweka to the community over 100 years ago, in honour of his mother who loved wildflowers.

It is now cared for by volunteers who plant local indigenous species. Many plants have identification labels.

Seats are placed throughout the park for rest and quiet observation.

Each season provides new interest with lovely orchids, wildflowers, trees and birds to enjoy.
